On March 24th 2000 the former shareholders of the companies StadtteilAuto Aachen, Stadtauto Bremen and Stattauto Köln founded the "cambio Mobilitätsservice GmbH und Co. Kommanditgesellschaft" with its headquarter in Bremen. The new-born limited partner company acquired then the local Ltd.'s and is their only shareholder since then.
Beside the three founding companies, the 'daughter' companies the Saarmobil GmbH (cambio Saarbrücken), half of the Belgian company 'Optimobil' and the majority of the CARe-Mobilitätstechnologie GmbH, a CarSharing software company founded in 1996 .
